We help make the dream of higher education a reality for our students.

One degree. Many futures.

Participate in our mission to support students at the Harvard-Kent Elementary School in their journey to higher education.

“The Leadership Scholarship program is a perfect example of how a community and a school should work together in partnership. If we had more of these kind of partnerships, we’d have a lot fewer needs in the city.” –  Martin Walsh, former Mayor of Boston.

Dear Friend...

Our school, Harvard-Kent elementary school, serves the largest percentage of students in public housing of any school in Boston. 83% of the kids are high-need. And 47% are English language learners.

Harvard-Kent Leadership & Scholarship Partnership, an all-volunteer nonprofit in Charlestown with a 16-year history, aims to level the playing field for the school’s dedicated, deserving students.

Each year we award eight aspirational college scholarships to two students in each of the 3rd, 4th, 5th and 6th grades. We hold the scholarships in an interest-bearing trust for each scholarship winner until he or she reaches college age.

Our scholarship winners are chosen for both academic performance and, just as importantly, leadership in the classroom. Grades, class participation, attitude, and willingness to help others are all taken into consideration. Recipients are selected by teachers, the principal, and several members from our Board,

Our mission is to make sure all Harvard-Kent students feel that college is a real possibility, not an impossible dream.

We sincerely hope that you can join us on this mission to empower the lives of our talented students.

The Board of the Harvard-Kent Leadership & Scholarship Partnership.

Supporting Students Since 2006

I am grateful for getting the chance to find a bright future.

- Tiffany, student from Harvard-Kent elementary school

Each year we award six incentive scholarships to exemplary student leaders in the 3rd, 4th, and 5th grades. We provide enrichment activities and, as our students grow, the Partnerships offers mentoring and college application advice. In our 14-year history, we have awarded 84 scholarships; all of the scholarship recepients who have reached college age are attending college.

About Our School

Harvard-Kent Elementary School

Our school, located in Charlestown, Massachusetts, is a Boston Public School with over 600 students attending pre-kindergarten through sixth grade.

In 2016, the school was named a Level 1 school – the top designation – by the Massachusetts Department of Elementary & Secondary Education. This tremendous accomplishment was a result of our students making accelerated progress on state assessments.

The school is also proud to have one of the most racially diverse student bodies among the Boston Public Schools, with 35% Hispanic, 29% Asian, 23% African American, 10% White, and 3% Multi-Race.

We are with them every step of the journey.

When our students start to think about college, certification programs, and vocational training, the Partnership supports them with everything from advice on enrichment programs to SAT tutoring and financial aid counseling, thanks to our Cozart Egleston Scholarship Fund, named in memory of a promising young Harvard-Kent graduate.

Our promise to young talents.

The Harvard-Kent Leadership & Scholarship Partnership helps to support the school’s academic programming, extracurriculars, and STEAM (science, technology, engineering, arts, mathematics) opportunities.

Our bond as a community.

Each year, we host gatherings inviting all scholars past and present along with their families at the Boys and Girls Club of Charlestown. Each family is asked to bring a dish that represents their native country. There are an assortment of games and crafts for the younger children. We have included presentations and discussions of college financing during these events as well.

Our role in supporting teachers.

The Harvard-Kent Leadership & Scholarship Partnership dedicates resources to the Teacher Grant Program, making it easier for the school’s teachers to improve the quality of education that their students receive.

These grants help teachers enhance their classrooms.  The grants range in content from: a rug for the classroom so the students can gather on the floor, congo drums for the music teacher to teach drumming, to reading programs and math curricula utilized by the teachers. The mini grants have also provided a lot of technological equipment that allow teachers to individualize their teaching.

Our scholars have been admitted
into great programs.

The recipients of our awards continue to progress academically and fulfill their passion by enrolling in colleges, universities, vocational training, and certificate programs. At Harvard-Kent Leadership & Scholarship Partnership, we believe that our contributions are just the start, and that these talented scholars will have amazing futures waiting for them.

& Much More.

In addition to granting scholarships...

The Harvard-Kent Leadership & Scholarship Partnership supports students from the moment they receive their award to the moment they enter into college. Indeed, the process of applying to college & finding proper role models can be challenging. As such, the Partnership also:

We are always looking for energetic volunteers who have an interest in education, fundraising and helping kids explore Boston’s cultural institutions.
